The Kesharwani community — also spelled Kesarwani, and known by the names Keshri and Keshari — is one of India’s respected Bania/Vaishya trading communities. Our very name tells our story: “kesar” — saffron, the precious spice our ancestors traded — and “wani”, a word tied to the trading class of Kashmir.
Our roots lie in the Kashmir region. From around the 12th century onwards, our ancestors moved out of Kashmir towards Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh — and today these states are the largest centres of our community.
For generations, our traditional occupation has been trade and business. Along with trade came our values — honest dealings, deep family bonds, and standing by the community. Today, the need of the hour is for our community members, spread across the country, to come together on one digital platform.
